Wednesday Wellness: Nat Kringoudis

Fertility Slice

I have a treat for you today! I’m launching my Wednesday Wellness Series where I introduce you to my favourite wellness sisters (and brothers!). Today, I’m sharing an interview with the beautiful Nat Kringoudis. I’ve written about Nat here before. Nat is the owner of The Pagoda Tree – Melbourne’s Home of Women’s Health, Traditional Chinese Medicine & Alternative Therapies. She is a Dr of Traditional Chinese Medicine, an Acupuncturist, a Natural Fertility Educator, a Writer and a Blogger. If that’s not enough, she is also a Wife, Mother, Daughter, Sister, Family lover & Friend. So over to Nat…

Tell us about your journey, what sparked your passion for the health and wellness industry?

I was raised with nutrition and natural medicine being the cornerstone of health and it really evolved from there.  I never anticipated my life would actually end up here though – but I’m super happy it did!  I’m living the dream.  And I love it.  But I have my upbringing to thank for sure.

What’s your number one wellness tip?

Eat Fat!  Our health depends on it.  Hormones are fuelled by fats and proteins.  Without adequate therapeutic fats, we can’t survive.  It’s really pretty simple – pass on the trans fats, pump up the great fats!  Every corner of your body will thank you for it – and of course, know this; if low fat foods worked, we’d all be of a healthy weight!  They’re a gimmick – a very costly one when it comes to our health and fertility.  They are ruining our hormones.  Think foods like salmon, avocado, coconut butter, nuts, seeds, chia etc.  So many problems can be cured by great nutrition.

What’s your one non-negotiable when it comes to your health?

Hormones must be happy.  Organic, whole foods are a must.  Nourishing my body is on the top of my list.

What motto do you live by?

Fertility isn’t just about babies!  In fact – the baby is just the end point.  Fertility is quite simply being healthy on every level.

What is your proudest achievement?

I guess my first e-book Fertilise Yourself.  I had no real idea what I was doing but I was determined to get it out there.  It’s sold thousands of copies now and we’re in talks about it going to hard copy.  I am super proud of it because anybody can pick it up and benefit – it’s appropriate to everybody that has a heartbeat.  Also my clinic, that’s an achievement.  I live and breathe that place.  It’s had my heart and soul poured into it.

What are your goals for the future?

Quite simply more of what I am doing on a grander scale.  Reaching women worldwide, especially young women, to educate them about their own bodies.  We don’t do enough of this stuff.  Also debunking the idea that fertility is about babies – this message ALL women must know.  Once upon a time we were connected with ourselves.  Synthetic contraception and fixable illness like PCOS and Endometriosis have robbed us of this because young girls are being prescribed the pill and never get the chance to know who they really are.

Tell us something not many people know about you?

I can smell things a mile off and I’m super fussy with how things smell!  Pro’s and con’s I guess – having a 1.5 year old in nappies!

Can you share with us one of your favourite recipes?

Ooohh where do I start! Here’s a fav –

5 Minute Super-Fertility Slice

2 cups medjool dates pitted

1 cup loving earth buckinis

1/2 cup coconut shredded

1 tablespoon maca

1 block of the darkest rawest chocolate you can find.  I love the blackout variety.

In a food processor or thermomix, combine dates, coconut and maca.  Once combined, add in buckinis and only blitz a few times to mix through.  The base is best rough. Press into a small baking dish or loaf tin lined with baking paper and allow to set in the fridge. Melt the chocolate using a double boiler until runny.  Pour over the top of the slice and allow to set. Slice up, boil the kettle and take 5! You might like to switch-a-roo the base.  You could use cacao, chia seeds, cacao butter, acai berries – whatever you desire really!

  1. What is Buckinis and Maca and can we get them in Australia and where would we be most likely to find them?

    1. Hi Bronwyn :) Buckinis are activated buckwheat – buckwheat is the seed of a fruit (it contains no gluten or wheat and is not a grain). You can buy buckinis online from an Australian company called Loving Earth. If you click on the word buckini in the ingredients list in my post, it will take you to their online store. My local health food shop stocks Loving Earth products and they are lovely enough to order in any products I want, so that’s where I buy mine. Maca powder is made by grinding the root plant native to Peru. It is great for balancing hormones. I eat 1 tablespoon each day with breakfast. You can buy maca powder from Loving Earth also. Your local health food store may have other brands of buckinis or maca that you could try also.
