Tell us about your journey, what sparked your passion for the health and wellness industry?
Growing up I was always so preoccupied with what others wanted and in trying to make myself perfect for them. Because I was resting all my happiness on other people and external factors I’d never taken my own health and wellness seriously. This became clear when I went through a bad breakup and realised that I had no one left in my life I could rely on but myself. In retrospect this was a wonderful thing. It taught me the importance of putting ourselves first. I immersed myself in the health and wellness industry to heal the disconnect between my body and mind and show myself some long overdue self love and the results I saw got me hooked.
What’s your number one wellness tip?
Put your own needs first. This may seem hard if you’ve got a family or lots of commitments but when you spend time taking care of yourself you’ll soon see you have more energy and a more positive mind-frame for the others in your life.
What’s your one non-negotiable when it comes to your health?
Sleep! Eight hours every night. If something has me staying up late or getting up early I make sure to fit in an afternoon nap. Without my eight hours my energy and productivity slump and its just too easy to fall into bad eating habits.
What motto do you live by?
I have several I love but it all comes down to ‘Breathe’. It’s so easy to forget about our breath when things get stressful but nothing will calm and re-align you quicker than taking some big, deep breaths.
What is your proudest achievement?
Running my first 5k. It was the moment I realised anyone could become a regular exerciser, a runner and fit, if they just believed in themselves and had the courage to keep trying.
What are your goals for the future?
My big one this year is to finalise my coaching studies so I can provide even more benefit to my clients and begin the road to creating a full time business. I’m also recommitting to writing more, more of everything, to start me on the road of realising my childhood dream of becoming a published author.
Tell us something not many people know about you?
Without the help of health and wellness techniques such as meditation, I experience crippling anxiety. The fact that I can successfully deal with this is a testament to the success of a dedicated wellness routine.
Can you share with us one of your favourite recipes?
One of my health and wellness focuses is to create more energy to do the things I’m passionate about. This desire saw the creation of my energy boosting green smoothie.
1/2 a mango
1 cup of leafy greens
1 tablespoon of probiotic yoghurt
1 tablespoon of goji berries
1 teaspoon of maca powder
1/2 cup of filtered water (more or less depending on how thick you like your smoothies)
A sprinkle of chia seeds
Just blend all the ingredients together and you’re good to go.
Hint – If you live in a cold environment like I happen to, you can use slightly warmed water to take away the chill of the cooler ingredients on those cold winter mornings.
