Rory Bland is a 24 year old dude here to put more fun, lightness, joy, purpose, love and passion into the world. Rory is a die hard foodie, a yogi, a juicing junkie, a YouTuber, speaker, author and is pretty much on fire in life. He created The Whole Food Dude to educate others and share the foodie love. Tell us about your journey, what sparked your passion for the health and wellness industry? 

My passion for wellness was sparked over 6 years ago when my father passed away.  I was 17 and my dad died of a heart attack at 46. I later learnt that it was from his full on lifestyle – cigarettes, alcohol, late nights, very little sleep, party drugs, always on the phone, not in the most positive environments and SO STRESSED!

I didn’t know how to deal with it so I ended up being depressed and lost for a couple of years before I had an anxiety attack that changed my life. I went from being in a death metal band and partying hard to living in a yoga retreat two weeks later. At the yoga retreat I studied yoga, worked, practiced yoga and discovered raw food, whole foods and plant based cuisine. It was at this point I became a die hard foodie. I was there for 8 months before I left to learn more about nutrition and discover more of who I was.

Shortly after leaving I was pretty depressed again and even though I was studying natural health, I was in a bad place. Eating disorder, anxiety, depression and going nowhere fast!

Then I started to get into personal development and communication which totally saved my life. I was able to get over the grief of my fathers passing and discover my life anew. Plus now I had all these amazing tools and this path before me in the wellness and conscious living industry.

Since then I’ve been discovering all different nooks and crannies of the health movement and it’s been an awesome roller coaster of a journey. Recently I decided to merge my life long passions for film, the internet and creative media with wellness which is how The Whole Food Dude came about. Now I make quirky videos about wellness and I love it!

Now my dream of living my passion and making a contribution to the world is coming true!

What’s your number one wellness tip?

Green Juice! Hands down. Just drink litres of that stuff – it works miracles on your body. The darker and greener the better I say!

What’s your one non-negotiable when it comes to your health?

Take responsibility of your own health and follow your intuition. You are the author of your own wellness or illness.

What motto do you live by?

“Be the change you wish to see in the world.” Ghandi was onto it!

What is your proudest achievement?

Living in a Yoga Retreat when I was 19 for 8 months! Who does that??

What are your goals for the future?

I have A LOT of YouTube videos in the making. There are sooo many ideas I have for videos which will keep me occupied for ages. It’s kind of an addiction and I get so much joy out of it. I’ve got some eBooks, programs and wellness raps I’m working on and I look forward to public speaking in the near future.

One of my biggest goals is to integrate this stuff into the mainstream and really make a transformation so our next generations of kings and queens will live in a world they are proud to call home. I want my (future) kids to be able to order Green Juice and a Raw Superfood Salad from the school tuckshop! That’d be sick!

I’d also love to be the host of a Natural Health/Conscious Living “Getaway” Style TV Show… break a Guiness World Record… write a best seller and maybe even turn The Whole Food Dude into a cartoon character… who knows… I’m a pretty ambitious dude!

Tell us something not many people know about you?

I took initiation and a spiritual name from a Guru when I was 19. I was called Ram pronounced “Raam” and was given a sweet as mantra to chant. I also prefer to eat dessert before dinner!

Can you share with us one of your favourite recipes?

I love remixing the old school faves and putting a wellness spin on them, so try out my Green Pina Colada! (Mocktail)

1 cup pineapple
2 bananas
200g coconut meat or coconut yoghurt
1-2 cups coconut water
2 handfuls of greens of your choice
1 tablespoon super greens of your choice (my fave is the worlds best spirulina)
1 tablespoons Coconut Magic Coconut Oil

Chuck it in your high speed blender and BAM!

Serve in fancy glasses at parties to impress guests.
