Emily Holmes – Conscious Foodie

Each week on here I interview one of my health and wellness friends. I ask them all sorts of questions about their journey, tips, beliefs, achievements and goals. My favourites so far have been Nat Kringoudis from the Pagoda Tree, Monique Pollard from Ground Organics, Tara Bliss from Such Different Skies and Jessica Sepel from JSHealth. These girls have shared their heart and soul without hesitation. Their authenticity shines bright.  So today, I thought I’d share my heart and soul with you all, since you’re all so amazing!

Tell us about your journey, what sparked your passion for the health and wellness industry?

I got myself trapped in a vicious cycle of hating and hurting myself. I felt I had no control over my moods and I blamed everything and everyone but myself. I was deeply ashamed. My doctor taught me about using food as medicine. Imagine that! A GP prescribing nutrient rich food instead of a prescription. How lucky am !? This is at the top of my gratitude list every single day and now I tell anyone who will listen!

What’s your number one wellness tip?

Eat real food – foods in their natural state or as close as possible to their natural state. Move your body every day – in a way that feels natural and you enjoy. Do the inner work – you can drink 10 green smoothies a day but if you’re constantly stressed or hating yourself, you will never be healthy.

What’s your one non-negotiable when it comes to your health?

Sleep – 8 hours each night. Sleep is the best form of meditation. Barely anyone gets enough rest these days, so sleep is critical.

What motto do you live by?

Whether you think you can, or think you can’t – either way you are right. Henry Ford. The power of the mind is phenomenal and not many people realise this.

What is your proudest achievement?

Stepping up and recognising that I was in control of my happiness and that it didn’t depend on external factors or other people. Learning how to be an observer, rather than a reactor and choosing love over fear in every situation.

What are your goals for the future?

To live simply – watch sunrises and listen to rain. Renovate more houses. Write a book. Learn more about nutrition. Read more books.

Tell us something not many people know about you?

I’m marrying my favourite person in the universe on New Year’s Eve and then we’re taking a year long honeymoon to travel the world! You can read more about me here too.
