For Davina Hearne, it was a long journey from being a sugar-loving, alcohol-drinking party girl to being a meditating, yoga loving, whole-food and green juice fanatic. But it was worth it! Davina is now a fully qualified Naturopath, Nutritionist and Medical Herbalist over at her online home, Nutrition Revival. Now she’s on a mission to empower you to transform your health and love your life. Meet Davina…
Tell us about your journey, what sparked your passion for the health and wellness industry?
At the age of 24… I had a stressful job, was eating a poor diet, drinking too much and living a lifestyle that left me exhausted. I neglected to care for myself, had very little love for myself and soon found that I had extreme pain, particularly in my back, hip and knee. I saw plenty of specialists, but none of them could find anything wrong with me and so no one could help with my pain. At the same time, I became more and more interested in health and nutrition. I’d dig for information on nutrition anywhere I could and it wasn’t long before I found myself enrolled on a 3 year course in Naturopathy, Nutrition and Herbal Medicine. It was here that my life began to fall into place. Within weeks of changing my diet and lifestyle patterns, I found I no longer had any of the pain that I thought would be with me for life. I became excited by life and my new direction, best of all, I felt fantastic.
What’s your number one wellness tip?
Try your best to eat an organic, natural and wholefood diet, but don’t stress about being perfect. Just make one small change at a time and remember to celebrate your successes along the way.
What’s your one non-negotiable when it comes to your health?
My daily meditation. You’ve gotta take care of your mind before anything else will flow.
What motto do you live by?
If something feels right, do it. If it feels wrong, don’t do it
What is your proudest achievement?
That’s a tough one, but I’d say it was probably flying a plane by myself for the first time.
What are your goals for the future?
To inspire women everywhere to make choices for themselves and to live a happy, wild and free life.
Tell us something not many people know about you?
My middle name is Hazel and when I was a kid, I hated it because it had a ‘z’ in it!
Can you share with us one of your favourite recipes?
1/2 cup organic sunflower seeds
1/2 cup organic cashew nuts
1 cup organic sultanas
1 tsp organic vanilla extract
1 lemon (zest and juice)
1 cup organic dessicated coconut
1/2 tsp sea salt
Measure the nuts and seeds, place them in the food processor and process well – until they are fine like crumbs. Add the sultanas, vanilla, lemon juice and zest, then blend again until well mixed. In a separate large mixing bowl, mix the coconut and salt together with a spoon. Now, make sure your hands are clean, add the mixture from the food processor to the coconut and salt and mix together with your hands. I love this bit! Once its mixed well and looks like a dough, transfer the mixture to your final dish. You could use a baking tray or a large glass dish. Press the mixture down firmly so that it sticks together well and spread it evenly over the dish. Refrigerate for an hour or so and then slice into bars. I keep mine in the freezer so that it keeps for longer.
