Tell us about your journey, what sparked your passion for the health and wellness industry?
Growing up, I thought good nutrition was adding some tomato sauce to my two-minute noodles. No joke – I wasn’t too knowledgeable about health! It wasn’t until I started working in the health + wellness industry as a writer that I began having those ‘uh-huh, I actually need vegetables, exercise and good nutrition to survive + thrive’ moments. It’s still a journey, but something I’m incredibly passionate about these days.
What’s your number one wellness tip?
Green it up. Drink them, eat them, slice them, dice them – whatever. Just make sure you’re getting nutritious greens into your body every day.
What’s your one non-negotiable when it comes to your health?
Sleep!! I need at LEAST eight-hours of quality, restful sleep each night or else I turn into an ogre.
What motto do you live by?
I’m terrible for worrying about the future and mulling over the past, so my motto is ‘This too shall pass’. It reminds me that everything in life is fleeting, both the good bits and the bad bits. So just go with the flow. Live in the now. Be present.
What is your proudest achievement?
Definitely Happiness + Wellbeing Magazine. It started out as a bit of ‘Oh, let’s create this and see what happens’ thing and has developed into this incredible project that just lights me up and that I love it to bits!! Each month I get to inspire people to live happier, healthier + more lives. And that … well, it kinda rocks.
What are your goals for the future?
I’d love to become a full-blown fiction writer and am releasing my first-attempt at a romance novel later this year. My other goals are to write a non-fiction pet parenting book, to move overseas and also to get a puppy. Oh and as for a life goal, I want to leave this beautiful little earth a little better than when I arrived here!
Tell us something not many people know about you?
My big toes like to hug each other when I’m relaxed. They just link together and chill out … I’ve done this my whole life. Nobody ever really notices, but I do it all the time!
Can you share with us one of your favourite recipes?
Cacao + Coconut Bites, which I discovered via the lovely Charlie Lagoa. These are sooo freaking delicious. They’re super easy to make too.
1 tablespoon cacao powder
1/2 tablespoon agave syrup or raw honey
1 tablespoon raw coconut butter (refrigerated if you want them not as soft)
Mix ingredients into a bowl, spoon into mini-cupcake cups and voila! Instant choc hit. I also add a dash of pink himalayan sea salt to mine. Make sure you keep them in the fridge though, they’re not awesome at travelling.
