Be Happy, Don’t Worry

Happiness is a choice, not a destination. If you’re not happy now, you never will be. Take positive actions now in order to be happy now, in the present. Don’t wait, don’t tell yourself you’ll be happy when you finish university, or that you’ll be happy when a new job comes up. You are living NOW, so be happy NOW. Once again, I repeat, if you are not happy now, you never will be.

Basically, if you’re not happy, change something. You didn’t get to this place of unhappiness over night. You didn’t wake up one morning suddenly unhappy. You got here over a period of time. Slowly but surely, your happiness disappeared. So don’t keep doing the same things over and over and expect your attitude to magically change.

Change the way you act. Change the way you think. Take control. Stop blaming others. Don’t rely on others. You are in control of your own density. You are in control of your happiness. Slowly, but surely, you will change your perspective, your thought process and your actions.

You won’t suddenly wake up happy. It will take time. Chances are it took years to get to this unhappy, lost, confused, trapped and overwhelmed state. So chances are it will take just as long to be truly happy again. To be joyful, carefree and excited by life. But boy it will be worth it. You start reaping rewards straight away. Each second, each minute, each hour, each day, each week, each month, you will get happier and happier. Until one day you aren’t even trying. You will have consciously changed your life. Congratulations! You can beat depression, you can get out of that rut, you can change your way of thinking. It’s not easy, sometimes you need help and support, but you can do it.

Along the way, you will have days and moments that are far from happy. On these days you must do the complete opposite of what you feel like doing. If you feel like hiding from the world, sleeping and curling up in bed by yourself, get outside, get some vitamin D, surround yourself with people, call a friend or go for a walk or a run. Seriously. Try it.
